From Gunk to Hunk!

GUNK:

Well... our plumbing has officially been fixed! WHEWHOO! Couldn't be more thrilled than I am right now!

Long story short: while we were in Vegas, the poo/urine/tampon mess (that I will lovingly refer to as the "gunk") quit coming up the drain! (we later learned that our neighbor's basement started flooding with the gunk so he left the house for the weekend). When we returned from Vegas, there was still dried gunk EVERYWHERE which was nasty and smelly. J got some plumbers out immediately to make some bids in hopes that we could get it fixed before getting sick again. (we were both sick by the time we left for Vegas). The first few plumbers came out and all had the same bid... $20,000. That's right. You read that correctly. We about peed on ourselves.

Who the heck has that kind of dough laying around. The $20,000 was if we wanted to fix both lines so that the neighbor's plumbing would work too. Knowing that he has already been to jail several times and a known drug addict, getting half the payment from him wasn't promising. So, option B consisted of bypassing his plumbing if he would not give approval or help. The cost? $18,000. Fantastic. It would make his home uninhabitable but it would be the only solution if he refused to let us split it. Needless to say, we were PANICKED. Being laid off in December didn't help the situation with our finances and we were not expecting such a HUGE emergency fund to be needed.

On Wednesday, we finally saw God step in and throw us a bone. Sounds silly, but there's really no other explanation. We had gone to a friend's house to do laundry and take some much needed showers. He gave J a number of some guys that he thinks are pretty good at the whole plumbing thing. They came out and spent a few hours sending things down the drain to get them clear so they could figure out the problem. What did they find? Rubber gloves, towels, and other NON-FLUSHABLE materials. Idiot neighbor flushing idiot things.

Needless to say, after several hours, we got it fixed! That's right folks, we have working plumbing again and the gunk is long gone! J's friend is a lobbyist for effective/safe/environmentally friendly cleaning supplies so he came over and the two of them spent a couple hours COMPLETELY disinfecting/de-gunking/anti-molding our basement. :) Yay! Friends are definitely God's little reminders that he loves us in life.

Now on to Hunk! Yee-ahhhhh!

HUNK:

Tomorrow is J's bday! The big 3-1! Super excited. I surprised him by getting us a hotel room at his favorite downtown hotel for tonight. We even got the pet package which means little Miss Cleo will be joining us for the night :) Tonight is our date night. Tomorrow he is playing an acoustic set at a bar for his "friend celebration"! Super excited for it all! Not to mention, our friend Jess is in town from Vegas so I'm excited to have her here for the festivities tomorrow :)

I'll let you know how it goes! EXCITED!
